Good News

I've been buying fabric, thread and books for years from Connecting Threads.   I've posted quilts I made from their Jelly Rolls and Charm Squares.  Here's some of the quilts.

This quilt was made using charm squares.

I used charms and jelly rolls from the same line for this quilt.

This is another Jelly Roll quilt.

This was made for a friend in Texas for Christmas.  Another Jelly Roll Quilt.

Well I contacted Connecting Threads and asked if they would sponsor a giveaway.  Details are at the bottom of this post.

They have got some fabulous new fabric lines.  Here are just a few.  Take a look.

This is Maison de Provence

This is Luminescence    I love the Purple and Turquoise together.

And my favorite is Red by Alex Anderson.  I can already see a quilt in my future using this fabric.

Just a Note

I finished a flimsy....

This is "Forget Me Knot" by Cheri Payne.  You can find the pattern at Quilts By Cheri  This link will take you to her patterns.
"
It's a balmy 9 degrees out.  Snowing off and on and I'm trying to keep warm and get rid of a head cold.

I have another flimsy finish but I can't show it yet.  Ella's quilt top is finished I need to get it ready to quilt.  I can't wait to share a photo with it...it's so darn cute.

Take care, keep warm and keep busy.

Brrrrr

Baby it is cold outside.  A little warmer today than it was yesterday.  It was in the -10's yesterday and today it is 20.  Strange weather.  Snow is in our future..near future.  So again, it is a good day for sewing.

I finished my little bird quilt.

It looks a little wonky here...blame it on my head cold.  I used the same fabric as the inner border for the binding.  I had to buy some buttons for the berries on the branch.  It now looks finished and I love it.

The Buttermilk Basin BOM for February came out on the 15th.  Again mine is made using cotton fabrics.

This is going to be a sweet quilt when finished.  I can't wait to see what Stacy has planned for us next month.

I finished the applique on the bottom of Cheri Payne's "Forget Me Not" quilt.

I took a closeup of the bottom applique.  I still need to sew lines down the center of the windows.  The top border is going to have 3 blackbirds.  I'm putting that off till I finish a new project.

The New Project is for our new Granddaughter Ella that is due in May.  I finished the pieced blocks and am now working on the appliqued center block. I can't show you any pictures yet.  But I will show them after they receive the quilt.

Keep warm and keep busy.  I know I will.

My Mission...

Should I accept....  Finish up some projects before I start another.

Hard as I try I don't always do this.  Today as I write the temperature is -9 outside.  Cool inside too.  So another good day to do some sewing.

I finished...

My Autumn Monday Mystery.  This is it on my design wall.  That's why it looks so wonky.  It will hang in my living room next October.  This dates back to 2013.

I finished the border on the bird quilt.  I wasn't sure what fabric to use so I chose 4 different fabrics, took a photo of each with the appliqued piece on top, made up a composite of all 4 and my husband chose the winner.

I was partial to the lower left picture...hubby chose the upper right.

I finished hand quilting it last night.  The binding is going to be the same as the inner border,  It is all made and ready to go.  So it should be finished tonight.

I started a new project...I know.  However I used 9 patch blocks from the swap that Barb (Fun with Barb) hosted last year.  I fell in love with Cheri Payne's pattern "Forget Me Not".  Perfect to use up some of my 9 patch blocks.  All blocks used in my version are 1" bigger.

I have all the templates for the applique traced on freezer paper.  I need to cut the top border and will do the applique for it before I sew it to the quilt.  I'm so excited to get this finished.

Did you see?  Stacy from Buttermilk Basin posted this months block.  Again I will do mine using cotton instead of wool.

That's it for now.  I'm snuggling down in my sewing room and will be prepping applique, sewing bindings, making a couple of Bitty Baskets and starting on the Buttermilk Basin.

Stay warm and keep busy.  Thanks for stopping by.

Hugs, Cathy

Thank You!!!!

For keeping my family in your thoughts and prayers.  My brother's surgery was a success.  It only took an hour instead of the expected 2 1/2 to 3 hours.  An hour after the surgery he was awake, alert, smiling and joking with us.  He came home on Sunday and we are all happy.

I didn't get to go back to the hospital to see him because I woke up with a sore throat and congested.  I just can't seem to get rid of this.  I will feel well, then I go outside and bam....it's back.  I guess I'm going to have to go see my doctor.

Anyway...enough about me.  I got some sewing done.

Remember this is my Autumn Monday Mystery Quilt.  It is from October 2013.

Well it is all quilted and the binding is made.  I'm hoping to get it done today so I can post a picture of the finished quilt.

I worked on the Super Simple Sampler Blocks from Sharon at Colorgirl Quilts.

I have 19 blocks made.  She just finished posting #23.  I'm going to take a brake and make more next week.  This fabric is so out of my comfort zone. But it's nice to push yourself.

I started working on Quiltmaker's February Bitty Blocks.  Sweet baskets.  They are 4" finished.  Again I am using the same charm square's that I used last month.

I took a little applique project with me to the hospital to work on while we were waiting.   Best laid plans....  We were talking so much I didn't get a chance to sew a stitch.   So I finished this up yesterday while watching NCIS.

It is from a pattern by Renee Plains called Petals & Feathers.  The block is 5.5" by 7.5".  I need to add a very narrow border and then a larger border.  It may stay with me or it might fly away to some else for Christmas.

That's it for today.  I'm taking cough medicine and sinus medicine.  I have my personal humidifier going strong in the sewing room.  I'm hoping to get some more sewing done and hoping to get rid of this whatever it is.

It's another cold day here in Michigan...cold front is here to stay for a while. So keep warm and keep busy.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hugs, Cathy

P.S.  Yesterday was our Wedding Anniversary.  I want to thank my husband for being so supportive to my quilting addiction...He's the best.

Snow Storms Make For....

Good sewing time.

Lots to show you.  As I said before I have joined along with Huckleberry Stitches to do a monthly mini from the book 101 Fabulous Small Quilts.  This month's quilt is called "Answer All Invitations That Ask You to RSVP" on page 22.

This was a fun quilt.  I used a charm pack.  It sort of reminds me of Blueberry Cobbler with cream.

Next up is my Temecula Quilt Co. Calendar quilt for February.

I love Log Cabin Quilts and this was a quick quilt.

I had a change of plans while working on my Medallion quilt.  I decided this is as far as I am going to go with it.  My husband likes it just the way it is.

So this is where I leave it  It will be to next top to be quilted.  This was started 2 years ago.  So I now have another project box emptied.

I showed you the finished Autumn Mystery top.  Well I got it pinned and started machine quilting it.

I thought I started this last year...but it was started in October 2013.  Another UFO will soon be finished.

I haven't worked on my Hip Chicks BOM.  While checking out my applique folder I came across this unfinished block.

I believe this is from September.  I finished it last night but still need to iron and trim.  The markings on the background are where I used a frixion pen to mark the placement.  They will disappear when I iron the block.

I've told you about all the snow we have gotten.  Totals are around 20" or more.  We have a small dog and she got buried in the snow when we let her out.  So my husband shoveled the lawn...yes I said the lawn.  Now Sammie has a couple of trails to run in the snow.

Not only did Sammie appreciate it but the birds did too.  This is a spot under the bird feeders.  This sweet Junco finds it much easier to get to the dropped seed.

I'm not sure if I will get much done this weekend.  My sweet baby brother is having his third brain tumor surgery.  It's the type of tumor that keeps coming back.  We will be at the hospital tomorrow morning.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you are keeping warm and are doing something you love.

Hugs, Cathy

Super Bowl Sunday

What do you have planned today.  I might watch a bit of the game but mostly I am going to be sewing.  With the weather we've been having I've been doing a lot of that.

First up is my Quilt Doodles 2014 BOM.  It is now a flimsy.  I finally got all the rows sewn together.  It now resides on the "To Be Quilted" pile.

Next I found a BOM I couldn't resist.  It is a wool BOM from Stacy at Buttermilk Basin Design Studio.  I did mine in cottons.

It is so adorable.  I can't wait to see what she has designed for next month.

I was going through my Project Boxes (I have 16) and came across a Medallion Quilt I started a few years ago.

This is how far I had gotten.

I added another narrow border and today I will finish adding a solid border.  I want to add another narrow border and then some small blocks.  It will probably go back into the box after that.

Seeing it is February 1st I pulled out my Temecula calendar to see what this month's quilt is.

So I pulled out a pink, white and dark red....

And whipped this together yesterday/  It went so quickly.  I even got it pinned ready to quilt.  I would have finished it yesterday but my dog Sammie wanted some cuddle time.  She is such a doll.

Well it's snowing...and snowing today.  My daughter Kelley and her husband and daughter are at the airport waiting to board their flight to Florida.  It was one of the only flights not to be cancelled.  They will be in Florida for the night and then tomorrow the go on a cruise....wish I were going.  LOL

Before you leave, please head on over to Huckleberry Stitches.  I am involved in a group she has started.  We make a quilt a month from the book "101 Fabulous Small Quilts".

January's Quilt was "A Box of Chocolates"  She has a quilt show of all the quilts made by the participants.  She also has listed the quilt for this month. And it's not to late to join in the fun.

That's it for today.  I need to get a movie on (I'm watching the series of Lord of the Rings movies) and pull out projects to work on.  Stay warm and keep busy.

Hugs, Cathy
